Clark Roofing
900/910 Lake Shore
Drive Chicago, IL
When confronted with twenty-nine stories without a parapet wall on
Chicago’s lakefront, safety is a major concern. At 900 Lake Shore Drive
Clark Roofing tore off 29,000 sq. ft. of 2" concrete pavers as well
as the roof system below the pavers. We then removed 370 tons of concrete
from the top of one of the premier residential addresses in Chicago’s
Gold Coast neighborhood without any accidents- truly a monumental feat! This building remained completely occupied
while the roof replacement project progressed. We assembled three and four
man teams to lower the debris safely to the ground, while simultaneously
supplying the roofers with the materials they needed to install the new
roof system and maintain a watertight condition.
McClurg Court
Center
Chicago, IL
At McClurg Court, Clark Roofing was
chosen to replace the roof systems on twin towers in the heart of downtown
Chicago. Imagine
traveling 450 feet vertically along an all glass wall carrying 900 to
1,200 lbs. at a time. Add to that the special challenges that strong and
swirling winds pose to high rise buildings. Using a hydraulically driven
hoisting device we were able to carefully and cautiously lift the new
roofing material to the roof and lower the debris safely to the ground. To
secure the first layer of insulation to the roof deck, we drove 11,000
specially designed mechanical fasteners 3" into structural concrete.
Using this fastening technique, we were able to obtain the wind uplift
resistance we were striving to achieve. The remaining layer of insulation
was fully adhered in asphalt, two fiberglass base plies were installed and
the Johns’ Manville modified bitumen roof membrane, TriPly, was heat
welded into place.
